DescriptionMajor Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides quality criminal defense and representation in compliance with the U.
S.
Constitution, the Mississippi Constitution, the Mississippi Code, current case law while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
Maintain a clear understanding of the Mississippi Rules of Criminal Procedure and adhere to the same.
Represent all appointed defendants who have been deemed indigent or in need of a Public Defender.
The Court will make the determination and appointment.
Represent appointed defendants from arraignment through trial in the City of Oxford Municipal Court.
Perform research, study various legal records and participate in various training sessions to gather relevant information.
Maintain knowledge on all legal literature and updates.
Perform investigation on case and assist in efficient processes to prepare defense, interpret strengths and forecast sentences.
Monitor all motions, briefs and legal documents and prepare reports for same.
Assist and provide defense to all clients charges criminally who have been assigned to Public Defender.
In a timely manner, coordinate and negotiate with the City of Oxford Prosecutor for possible pleas to include dismissals or optimal sentence times for client.
Represent all appointed defendants in the courtroom and evaluate trial verdict to draft post-trial motions.
Develop and maintain effective communications and relationships with the Municipal Judge, the City Prosecutor, all law enforcement, jail officials, as well as all city officials.
Collaborate with all medical facilities and providers who provide services for the Oxford Municipal Court Perform other duties as directed by the Court.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge:
Mississippi Court Rules and Practices and the Mississippi Code Proper grammar and use of the English language in speaking and writing OSHA standards and regulations concerning employee safety Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication Process and procedures for issuing warrants Available resources for legal research General functions and operations of a municipal government Skills and Abilities:
Listen carefully and interpret meaning Maintain objectivity Apply and interpret laws Supervisory and management skills Prioritize daily work flow Meet specified or required deadlines Make decisions within specified time restraint Communicate effectively with residents, elected officials, other city employees, etc.

Applicant must be in good standing with the Mississippi State Bar.
At least three (3) years of criminal court experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
