Information Technology Specialist

As an Information Technology Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of information technology support services to the United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Mississippi. You will be assigned to the Administrative Division in the Oxford Office, and your duties will include (but are not limited to):
Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems. Managing accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment. Installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software systems. Assisting in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware. Maintaining telecommunications systems using knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control and operation of telecommunications systems. Monitoring the functionality, security and integrity of internet services. Managing internet servers. Analyzing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks and data. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. To be qualified at the GS-09 and/or GS-11, you must possess:
Basic Requirement:
Information Technology (IT)-related experience, obtained through paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, demonstrating each of the following competences:

This basic requirement does not apply to applicants who meet the requirements for substituting education for experience at the GS-09 or GS-11 as outlined below. To be eligible at the GS-09, you must possess:
Experience:
At least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 7 level in Federal service, which is in or related to work in the Information Technology (IT) field and demonstrates possession of each of the following competencies:
Attention to Detail; Customer Service; Oral Communication; and Problem Solving. Specialized experience includes performing the following types of duties:
providing information technology customer support services to include the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems and networked systems, and the maintenance of the internet server and web sites. OR Education:
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. To be eligible at the GS 11, you must possess:
Experience:
At least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 9 level in Federal service, which is in or related to work in the Information Technology (IT) field and demonstrates possession of each of the following competencies:
Attention to Detail; Customer Service; Oral Communications; and Problem Solving. Specialized experience includes performing the following types of duties:
providing information technology customer support services to include the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems and networked systems; providing user training on a variety of routine applications; providing quality assurance and analysis of information security systems to ensure compliance with information security policies and regulations; and managing the design and legal compliance of web sites. OR Education:
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the doctoral level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
